Nielsen puts Gillard level with last election going into last week

As reported in The Age by Tim Colebatch the lastest Nielsen Poll gives Labor 53% of the two-party preferred vote - a similar level to last election. The state by state story is different with an increased Labor vote in Victoria being undermined by a decreased vote in Queensland and New South Wales.

Roy Morgan polling whiplashes

It's hard to believe that this could be correct, but Roy Morgan says the ALP surged by 7.5% last weekend from 50% on Tuesday the previous week to 57.5%. I don't know of any polls that can confirm this, so it might just be a continuation of Morgan's track which is to give the ALP a higher vote than any other poll.

Further comment on pundits.  Over the past weekend media commentators on air and in print were near enough to unanimous that the Labor campaign was  "a farce", a "fiasco", a "circus", and a "disaster".

Nielsen still shows Coalition ahead

The SMH reports that the latest Nielsen Poll (taken mid-last week) shows essentially no change in the votes of the government and opposition. Two-party preferred is 49% to 51% (government to opposition) and first preference votes are 44% Coalition, 36% Labor and 13% Greens.
