I've polled on education a number of times over the years, and it seems that we're always dissatisfied with it. Education is more a Labor and Greens concern than an LNP one, and that is reflected in the composition of our respondents who are a bit more to the left than the general population.

The latest Newspoll saw the federal government gain 5 percentage points on its first preference vote. It may have been due to the prime minister being on holidays, as some cynics suggest, but it also might be due to the fact that she won the argument with the premiers over the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

Attitudes to police are similar to attitudes to dogs - some people love them, and other people are scared they will bite. Or at least that seems to be what our survey responses are telling us. In Queensland there are good reasons to be suspicious of the police, afterall, the most traumatic state election in our state's history was essentially fought over police corruption.

There are a multitude of "mores" in this research as in "Does the Queensland Government need to do more or less to deal with crime in Queensland?" While an overwhelming majority answered yes, the qual shows that many were advocating entirely different responses whilst agreeing. Then of course there was still a significant minority who disagreed.

I don't think there were too many respondents who thought that life was easy for the disabled and shouldn't be better, but goodwill doesn't necessarily translate into strong support for the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

While most Queenslanders are opposed to government plans to rescind national park status over 875,000 ha of recently proclaimed parks that were state forest and grazing properties, most LNP voters support it.

In the responses to our poll on reducing the size of the public service we had a number of respondents who identified themselves as current or former public servants. I thought their forthrightness should be rewarded by dedicating a separate post to them.

For last week's Party Games I polled on the Queensland government's policy of cutting the public service by 20,000. The results were interesting. Even though our sample seemed to lean to the left only 35% were opposed to down-sizing, versus 52% in favour and 11% neutral. That's a reasonably strong position for the government.
